A straight path through a forest

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)

Good morning, sisters! As you sip your coffee and settle in with the Word today, let’s pause and soak in the wisdom from Proverbs 3:5–6. These two verses are simple in words but deep in impact. They’ve carried me through everything from the mundane to the chaos that life can sometimes present.
Let’s unpack them together:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart…”

This isn’t halfway trust. This is full, undivided, heart-deep trust. The kind that lets go of the “what ifs” and clings to the “God will.”
Example: Think of a child jumping into her father’s arms at the pool. She doesn’t calculate the odds. She doesn’t hedge her bets. She just leaps—because she knows who’s
catching her.
That’s the kind of trust God calls us to. Not cautious, not reserved, but complete confidence in the One who has never failed and never will. Trusting God this way means
laying down the burden of control. It means saying, “Even when I don’t see the way, I trust that You do.” It’s choosing faith over fear and surrender over striving. When we truly trust Him, our hearts can rest—even when our circumstances don’t.

“…and lean not on your own understanding.”

Oof. That’s hard. Especially when we think we’ve got a pretty good handle on things. But our perspective is limited—His is eternal.
Example: A friend of mine was praying for a promotion she knew she was qualified for. She had the experience, the results, and the respect of her team—but the promotion went to someone else. At first, she was devastated and confused. But just months later, the new role was restructured during a company downsizing, and the person who got the job was laid off. God had protected her, not rejected her. What felt like disappointment was really
divine direction.

“In all your ways submit to Him…”

This means surrender in the everyday. Not just in crisis, but in carpool lines, grocery trips, and even during our quiet coffee mornings.
Example: Before starting each day, I ask, “Lord, guide my steps—even if they don’t go the way I planned.” That habit of surrender shapes how I manage interruptions, difficult
conversations, or even the temptation to rush past Him.

“…and He will make your paths straight.”

This isn’t a promise of ease but of clarity and divine direction. He’ll cut through the chaos and lead you.

Example: A dear friend of mine once felt called to start a women’s Bible study but hesitated for years. When she finally surrendered her fears and stepped out in faith, God
opened every door—right down to the number women who would attend!

Sisters, your cup may be full of questions today, but let your heart be full of trust. Ask Him: “Lord, where am I still leaning on my own understanding?” Then, hand it over. His
ways are faithful, even when we can’t see the whole path.
With love and a warm mug,
Sherry
